The Shield went up right after the Weapon hit Anna’s valley. Nobody Inside knows why. They weren’t the ones who constructed it. All they know is that the Shield cuts them off from the Outside world. No one can go out. No one can come in.

Anna is still hurting from the death of one of her Idents almost a year earlier. She, like everyone who was born after the Weapon deployed, was part of a multiple identical birth, and she’ll do anything to make sure her remaining two sisters stay safe.
Life inside the Shield is peaceful. Until sets of Idents begin to disappear. Anna stumbles across evidence that an Outsider is taking the Idents away, but none of the adult Survivors in her community are doing enough to hunt him down and stop him. Desperate to protect all the Idents—and especially her sisters, Anna takes matters into her own hands.
With the help of an attractive mysterious boy who escaped a bad situation in his own valley community, Anna is determined to find the Outsider and save her sisters.
