Running from reality lands one artistic boy and his best friend inside a magical mural where the lessons are self-inflicted, the stakes are nightmarish, and waking up isn’t guaranteed.
Andy Abbott is in life avoidance mode. He spends all his free time painting a secret mural on his closet wall instead of dealing with his witch of a Science Teacher, avoiding embarrassing himself in front of his crush, and attempting to wake from the nightmare that haunts him in this rotten post-divorce life.
When he’s magically expelled from school and falls into his mural, things are looking up. That is, until Andy finds out that even in this fantasy dreamland, there are still problems—many of his own making. The worst is the phantom nightmare is taking over his life bit by bit.
When the kingdom’s only protection is being drained of life and Andy’s artistic visions reveal that his real mom is in danger, everything is on the line on both sides of the mural. With only a candle, a chewed up number two pencil, and magical sketchpad as weapons he must somehow defeat the phantom before he is forever trapped in this true nightmare.
